here’s the third post on archidex08, this time focusing on presentation boards composed by professional architects. their boards are indoubtly clean and well-composed- targetting of course primarily the developers and the public. boards composed by students are of course more complicated, as caused by embedding concepts into their design.
I cropped out the images of archicentre projects, as I believe their renderings are the best among others. archi centre is led by ar tan loke mun, one of the speakers of datum kl. their largest proposals includes two masterplans; one of setia city of shah alam and another setia ecocity of johor (IDR project). fyi, the three black monolith towers are the proposed chrysalis towers, the prime of setia ecocity.
the boards by architects61 are composed of several photos of their proposed projects, clearly more modernist and stick-to-ground forms.
of c’arch architecture + design sb, theirs are slightly advertorial compositions, as proved with their straight to the point images.
d.c.a, obviously the most striking board, thanks to its dark background and strong impression of the residential project. apparently a lavish residential, but I admit the works of d.c.a outstands the mainstream bungalows.
if I’m not mistaken, d.n.a is a group of dozens young architects- recently emerging into the sarawakian architecural community. as they’re trying to showcase each and every of their projects, their board seemingly looks crowded and to be honest, it doesn’t impress me that much. their sudden monochrome and coloured images doesn’t help much either.
in their second board, they showcased their project of pansar sarawak, which won one of the pam awards in interior designs, and again if I’m correct.
these are from hamdan abdul jamal architect. their first board - again, crowded presentation board equals to subtle and weak message, but I was intrigued with the masterplan merged into the google earth image, seemingly an innovative way to present a layout plan. their second board is evident of the works done with google sketchup- and it is suprisingly looking good - especially the one on lower right.
maybe I shouldn’t comment much on jim poh architect’s first board on the exterior form - only one word, ‘typicality’. but in their second board, their section, done with sketchup- really suprised me. never thought a sketchup-done section will look that good!
razin architect. the exterior form shown is well described by the word, timeless- thanks to the excellent use of concrete. they also attempted google sketchup, which is by now quite decent to me.
the following two boards are by richie cham architect, and I disliked the way they composed the first board. it is pretty much disorientated and lack of harmony. but their residential projects are seemingly impressive. now, that is what I call, beautiful houses. I zoomed into one of the ‘reflection’ type house, emphasizing the great rendering.
rsp has proposed great looking skyscrapers- while their composition is quite subtle, they should’ve added a perspective either from a ground level or bird’s eye view.
the presentation boards from sa architects are one of the best compositions among others shown- thanks to the gridded squares and great red-black colors chosen.
impressive renderings helped veritas architects outstands other presentation boards, geez now black is cool. have a close look at their renderings!
y-arch puts forward series of photos of their projects, which I found quite an ineffective method for a presentation board. this reminds myself not to put too much photos on a single board. but still, their hybrid digital and watercolor renderings are something new of old to me, like some sort of ‘renaissance’ feeling
the zone team brings a great conceptual meaning compared to other rivals, though I found such form is unreasonably awkward. the second board on the other hand is a great orientation of photos, which I realize is the only board that looks good with loads of images.
this review I certainly make less or no comments on the form of proposed designs by the architects- as I do not have much time to undertand each and every project. and I believe with lack of understanding individual projects, it is unhonorable to criticize the design by the cover. so forth, I only put few comments on the overall layout of the presentation boards.
disclaimer: we all understand what is constructive criticism, don’t we?
